Hydroxyproline assay
The hydroxyproline level was used to examine the content of collagen in the lung homogenates. The lungs were harvested 28 days after treatment ａnd homogenized in PBS (pH 7.2–7.4). The supernatant was collected ａnd aliquot after centrifuged at 3000 g for 15 min under 4 °C.The concentration of hydroxyproline was detected with Mouse Hyp kit (Jinma Biological Technology Co. Ltd., Shanghai, China) as the specification.

In Vivo Efficacy Assay (Peritonitis-Sepsis Mode
Twenty-four C57BL/6 female mice (Liaoning Changsheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd.,Benxi, China) aged 6?7 weeks ａnd weighing 20?22 g were randomly divided into the following three groups (n = 8): (a) control group(saline), (b) infection group (E. coli), ａnd (c) treatment group (E. coli + II-I4-II). After 3 days of prefeeding, 100 μL of saline was injected into the peritoneal cavity of mice in the control group, while other mice received 100 μL of E. coli 25922 (～1 × 108 CFU/mL) to initiate infection. The treatment group was treated with II-I4-II (10 mg/kg) via intraperitoneal injection 1 h after infection, while the control group ａnd infection group received saline. Then, 12 h after the infection, the mice were euthanized. At the same time, the liver, spleen, kidney, ａnd lung of mice were taken out ａnd weighed to analyze the bacterial load in those organs. For hisathological examination, liver, spleen, kidney, ａnd lung sections were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde, embedded in paraffin, ａnd stained with hematoxylin ａnd eosin. The level of IL-1β, IL-6, ａnd TNF-α in the serum was analyzed with ELISA kits (Shanghai Jinma)
